Over five months ago when I started my 100 days of code journey I honestly couldn’t have imagined being where I am today. I’ve attempted the 100 days of code journey many times before and I’ve failed every single time. I’d simply forget I embarked on the journey and a few weeks or months later while scrolling thru my twitter feed I’d realize I never posted another update. This time around I decided that things would be different. For one, I would actually complete this journey. Secondly, I wanted to secure a developer role. Finally and the main reason I decided to embark on this journey again was after being rejected from my top choice company I decided to take a step back from interviewing spend a few months learning and growing and return to the job hunt when I felt comfortable. That devastating loss was the catalyst for me to accept the fact that I really need to hunker down, practice my data structure and algorithms knowledge, add some quality projects to my portfolio and become a well rounded and highly sought after developer.

Outside of wanting to grow as a developer I was interested in connecting with more people on Twitter that are in the text space. And I wanted to work on one of my biggest weaknesses which is being consistent. Since the whole point of the journey is to update your progress every single day. While I failed to consistently keep track of my journey and I didn’t really make any new connections on Twitter. I did manage to make coding everyday a habit and secure my first professional developer role.

Background

I first began learning how to code at a boot camp in New York City. A year later in 2017 I began looking for my first developer role. It took three long years, enrolling in a computer science college and serious amounts of studying but I finally did it. Everyone’s journey is different, some people are self taught, some people go to a boot camp, some people will pursue a degree, and some special folks out there like myself need a little bit of everything. But at the end of the day anyone who cares too and possesses the necessary grit and discipline to do so can learn how to code. If I am able to find a developer role especially in this job market anyone can.

What’s Next

Next I will be embarking on another 100 days of code journey. This will be very similar to the one I just completed where I’ll be coding every day Monday to Friday but taking the weekends off. This time around I’ll be sharing weekly updates on Twitter instead of daily. I’ll also be focusing on React and increasing my knowledge of frontend web development. This journey begins soon on April 20th! If you are interested in joining along and being accountability buddies or just following along please do not hesitate to reach out to me on twitter. That is where I’ll be posting my weekly updates hope to see you all there.

Happy Coding!
